On the one hand, there were a ton of glam gowns at the 74th Annual Golden Globes. So much so that I actually felt that Old Hollywood was coming back into fashion. On the other hand, stars like Sophie Turner, Jessica Biel, and Nicole Kidman wore WTF dresses from big name designers like Louis Vuitton, Elie Saab, and Alexander McQueen, that it really made me wonder, “Is this really where fashion is going?”
The repercussions remain to be seen.
Stars in yellow, stars in bold ball gowns (wow Olivia Culpo!) and stars with unique necklines stood out as much as the cringe-worthy looks and the risque dresses did. Let’s check out the trends on the red carpet at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

Yellow

Wow, I have never seen Natalie Portman look more divine. And what is it with the sudden prominence of yellow on the red carpet?

I know this isn’t Reese Witherspoon’s first time wearing yellow to an awards show red carpet. Not even her first time wearing yellow to the Golden Globes, in fact. In 2007, she wore a bright canary yellow cocktail dress. It was Nina Ricci by Olivier Theyskens. But she looks so much more sophisticated now. And the shade of her dress matches her hair perfectly.

Kerry Washington is the first person to wear this Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda couture dress on the red carpet.
The Statements

Wow! Olivia took my breath away. I don’t know…she has this Frida Kahlo/art/couture drama thing going on that I just can’t explain. A little too much eye makeup but this is the best she’s ever looked. Is it her first time at the Golden Globes?

I may be the only one. Lauren Dimet Waters may completely disagree with me. But I absolutely love this dress and how it looks on Felicity Jones.

Best She’s Ever Looked

Yes, she looks like she’s wearing lingerie. But it’s still magical. And Zuhair Murad is certainly the star of these Golden Globes.

The Worst

Sometimes I don’t understand SJP’s choices for the red carpet. This satin is all wrinkly and looks like an ill-fitting wedding dress. It consumes her and unless her hair was a tribute to Carrie Fisher, she just completely missed the mark.

A little bit of everything. Slits, shoulders, cutouts. And a little too much.

I think Carrie Underwood is gorgeous and has a beautiful body. But this bubblegum pink frothy mess doesn’t do it for me. Some said it looked like a cake topping. Others said it looked like a part of the female anatomy. Either way, it’s not good.
