Was it just me or did the 2018 CFDA Awards feel more packed with celebs and models this year than in past years? I almost feel like the Council of Fashion Designers, who heads up the annual awards show, wanted to capitalize on their fashion influencers, whether it be a model or celebrity fashionista. I mean, Kim Kardashian won a ‘Fashion Influencer’ award for god’s sake, and for what? She herself said she’s usually naked most of the time. Sadly, it makes sense she would win the award. Unlike years past, fashion is now more about following a brand because it’s “in” or making a statement by throwing weight behind a celebrity’s closet.
With that being said, and fresh off the success of the ultra-popular Met Gala 2018, CFDA is trying to make due of where fashion is in the present day, as they do every year with their awards presentation. The winners weren’t big surprises; Raf Simmons for Calvin Klein as Womenswear Designer of The Year, The Row by the Olsen twins named for Best Accessory Designer of the Year, Donatella Versace for the International Award, Naomi Campbell for the Fashion Icon Award and Diane von Furstenberg for the Positive Change award, to name a few. It was the celebrity/model turnout that truly made the event. And that power suits trend, of course!
Standout Numbers

I don’t know if that’s a robe or a heavily sequined tuxedo jacket.

Well, I wouldn’t recommend wearing a maxi dress to a big fashion event, even if you are Olivia Culpo. But I do love the color against her skin tone. The cut could have been better though.

Many Twitter followers eyed Issa Rael’s belt after she made her appearance as the host of the CFDA Awards. But it was her second look, a lime green suit, not pictured here, that really made her stand out on stage.

Not sure what made Gigi Hadid wear this crazy number (that most ordinary women can’t pull off) but it certainly sent tails wagging.

No one looks better than Lupita Nyon’go.

Power Suits
A new take on the 80s power suit (minus the exaggerated shoulders) is making a major comeback. This is proven by how many stars actually wore them.

I am not crazy about her hair or the bell sleeves or the fact that she’s wearing wayyyy to much makeup, but considering she’s the “first real housewife” to attend the CFDA awards, I thought Erika Jayne made a pretty good showing in Tom Ford. Though that customized Edie Parker clutch is just a little too much for me.

Other Statements

I’m not sure why I love this outfit. It’s a weird crop top with a billowing skirt. I think it might be that it was a bright spot among all the black at this awards show.
