We all know the Grammys are a time of risk-taking and experimental fashion – because that’s what music stars do, right? The 58th Annual Grammy Awards proved to be no exception in some ways, and a complete surprise in others. For starters, there were more beautiful jewel-toned gowns in contrast to the bevy of weird, sequined, sometimes semi-naked sheaths and wardrobe concoctions. Music stars seemed to step the red carpet glamour up a notch and ironically, this was led by some of the younger pop stars (like Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding, and Ariana Grande). They appeared to send the music world a very demure “FU” by pushing the message that Hollywood glamour was on its way back to the Grammys red carpet. Even Lady Gaga‘s colorful over-the-top coat and makeup were within reason because she was honoring David Bowie, after all.
Of course, the event would never be complete without some of the worst fashion around – ironically though, it wasn’t as much the talk of the night.
Here’s a look at the fashion that set us off in good ways and bad at the 58th annual Grammy Awards.
Hottest Looks of the NightSelena Gomez in Calvin Klein Collection
Not into the cutouts and all the glitter, but the color is beautiful on her and kudos Selena Gomez for showing off your curves!
Taylor Swift in Atelier Versace
Let the Anna Wintour comparisons commence! Hate the haircut, but like the dress, or at least the two tone aspect of it. I would have preferred to see Taylor Swift in something slim and form fitting rather than a crop top effect.
Tori Kelly in Gauri and Nainika
Even though Tori Kelly threw some serious shade at Swifty the color and neckline of this gown are gorgeous on her!
Ariana Grande in Romona Keveza
Yes, even the Grammys can bring out exquisite red carpet moments…ironically they come from some of the youngest stars in the audience like Ariana Grande.
Chrissy Teigen in Yousef Al-Jasmi
I love the cape, but I actually didn’t love this look on Chrissy Teigen. She’s looked better. Something about the high neck, the color and the fact that her hair is pulled away from her face so tightly even makes the dress look bad. I don’t know what I would have preferred, but it’s not this.
Lianne La Havas in Vivienne Westwood
Love the color! In perfect Vivienne Westwood fashion, Vivienne Westwood wows again. The draping, the neckline, the print. London-born British folk and soul singer Lianne La Havas wears it well.
Ellie Goulding in Stella McCartney
This Stella McCartney gown hangs a bit too much on Ellie Goulding (hello, tailor?), but at least it’s not over-the-top — in a good way.
Jane Seymour
Wait, Jane Seymour is 65 years old?! Could have fooled me! She wears this dress well.
Black and Sexy
Looks like black is back on the red carpet. Well we are talking music here…
Demi Lovato in Norisol FerrariCarrie Underwood in Nicolas JebranBella Hadid in Alexandre VauthierAlessandra Ambrosio in Atelier VersaceAnna Kendrick in Emanuel UngaroAdele in GivenchyThe OthersZendaya in DSquared2Sklyar Grey in Cary Santiago
This look on Skyler Grey was unexpected, but somehow I don’t think it deserves a spot in the Worst Dressed category. It’s as if the Filipino designer painted the look onto his muse.
Lady Gaga in Marc Jacobs satin coat
It’s the first time I’ve seen Marc Jacobs on an awards show red carpet in a very long time. Lady Gaga never ceases to amaze – and that’s just me wondering if she can walk in those shoes without tripping all over herself. The coat is embellished with metallic elements by Maison Lesage. She was channeling David Bowie from his Ziggy Stardust days so we expected nothing less.
Kacey Musgraves in Armani Prive
Some people put this in the Best Dressed category but I’m not sure I would go that far. Then again, Kacey Musgraves is playing up the cool feathers trend which we just saw at the BAFTA Awards and she’s doing in it a unique and colorful way.
Florence Welch in Gucci
Not Florence Welch‘s best look, but it’s definitely a gown I would expect to see on Florence Welch. It’s definitely her style, but maybe it’s time for her to change up her expected boho look.
Janelle Monae in Jean Paul Gaultier
Jean Paul Gaultier all the way! Now THIS is a look we expect to see on the Grammys red carpet. Yet Janelle Monae doesn’t look bad…and yes, this is something we’ve come to expect from her, so more power to ya sister! This girl always knows how to take risks and still look good.
Worst DressedTove Lo
Ironically, the septum ring is not the worst part of this dress. The curtain-y lace and those shoes. No, just NO.
Kaley Cuoco in Naeem Khan
It’s hard for me to write this. I love everything that Naeem Khan does. But it’s just like Kaley Cuoco to pick this number out of all of this designer’s amazing creations. Or maybe the two sat together and came up with it. It’s sooo Kaley Cuoco…just wish it wasn’t so Naeem Khan!
Nick Lachey with Vanessa Lachey in Michael Cinco
The worst dressed couple look DID NOT belong to Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, although John’s suit jacket was super ugly in my opinion. Nick Lachey and is wife Vanessa Lachey took the honors.
Joy Villa
And here comes Joy Villa nearly naked and screaming for attention! Even Lady Gaga isn’t this bad on her worst day!
Ciara in Alexandre VauthierDenicia
And then there was Denicia‘s pajama party…which reminds me of Lori Petty at the SAG Awards. Lesson to be learned? Stay away from Pepto Pink.
Lori Petty at SAGs
Yikes!
Beyonce in Inbal Dror
Sadly, Beyonce, though she skipped the red carpet, makes this category…wearing an Israeli designer no less! A wedding dress gone horribly wrong. She could have used some makeup too. Just saying.
