It’s almost September, people. You know what that means. Another crazy MTV Video Music Awards has come and gone. We know this one would be a doozy, what withMiley Cyrus hosting, Nicki Minaj performing and Kanye West receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. But we didn’t know how much!
And we’re not talking about Nicki’s deprecating words to Miley as she received an award or Kanye’s decision to run for President (or call himself a millennial – we’re not having either!)
It’s about the clothes, people! The clothes! If any red carpet is a risky endeavor, then the VMAs red carpet is the riskiest of them all. And yet, I was totally surprised by how many ladies actually wore gowns (or gown-like ensembles.) And then of course, there were the Miley Cyruses and even the Taylor Swifts of the bunch (she actually work a matchy-matchy crop top set.) Let’s take a look at the fashion of the evening:
The Crazy Dressers (otherwise known as WTF Were They Thinking?!)
Should we let them get away with these outfits because it’s the VMAs?
Miley Cyrus in Atelier Versace
Did we expect anything less from Miley? Not really. On the other hand, I wasn’t expecting this!
Miley Cyrus in House of HollandAmber Rose
Surprisingly, Amber Rose had one of the most intriguing outfits of the evening and I thought it was much better than the looks the Kardashians went for…
…Not that they’re feuding or anything. Then again, the outfit had a ton of expletives on it, which isn’t very nice. 😉
Britney Spears in Labourjosie
What is it with Britney never fitting into her clothes?
FKA Twigs in Atelier Versace
Seriously, I would have preferred FKA Twigs in a non-dominatrix look. Her colorful, cartoonish getups are much more exciting. Also, why is Versace getting all dominatrix on us?
Demi Lovato in Nicolas Jebran Couture
Kudos to Demi Lovato for flaunting her curves!
Tori Kelly in Vatanika
I’m a big fan of the mismatched print, but not so much the short shorts.
Taylor Swift in Ashish
Yawn! Trying to be risky but “still keepin’ it classy.” This outfit was a bit predictable if I must say so myself. Still, we’re not used to seeing Taylor Swift in a crop top – though she seems to look good in everything.
Cara Delevingne in Saint LaurentKourtney Kardashian in Balmain
Why does Kourtney Kardashian always dress so much better than sister Kim? Even in a bubblegum jumpsuit.
Kim Kardashian in Balmain
Big no no!
The Gowns
Some were sophisticated, others had slits that were ultra-revealing as always. To be honest, I was totally taken aback by the number of gowns on the red carpet at the VMAs this time around – and many of them worked!
Nicki Minaj in LabourjoisieVanessa Hudgens in Naeem Khan
The Grecian goddesses reign supreme…
Bella Thorne in Maria Lucia HohanGigi Hadid in Emilia Wickstead
I think this might be the most gorgeous I’ve ever seen Gigi Hadid look!
Hailee Steinfeld in Stella McCartney
Wow, Hailee Steinfeld, just wow! When all your elders are making fashion faux-pas, you outclass them in this!
