I just walked into a store I had no business being in—like something pulled me in. And there she was, hanging there, staring back at me. It was love at first sight. I tried her on, and she was perfection. Then I flipped the price tag… and my heart sank. The Mackage ALINE-CO 3-in-1 Convertible Trench Jacket now lives rent-free in my dreams.
Mackage ALINE-CO 3-in-1 Convertible Jacket, $990
So, as I tend to do in moments like this, I went down a deep rabbit hole in search of a cropped trench I’d love just as much—for less. I mean, $990 isn’t totally outrageous, but with a stack of bills this month, I just can’t justify it… or can I? The twist? While doing my research, I found a few designer cropped trenches I liked almost as much—but they were $2–3K, which is definitely not the direction I should be heading. So now the mission is clear: can I find one I love for under $800? Challenge accepted.

I mean if we are talking a true classic with a great cost per wear equation I always say go for the GOAT. A Burberry. But again, that is not the mission.

Water-repellent and fully lined, it’s finished with adjustable tab cuffs, side pockets, and a sleek button front—perfect for staying polished and dry on drizzly days.
In the end, I almost convinced myself the Mackage coat was totally justifiable—it is three looks in one, after all. I mean, it’s practically like getting a bonus rain parka for free, right? See how my mind works? But then again… maybe I should just go with one of these more affordable options. The struggle is real.
