There are five designers left in the competition! This week, they can finally design on their own as individuals, but the catch is they will have helpers. Tim takes the designers take a field trip to the Hearst Corporation building, which houses many magazines including Marie Claire. The group meets Nina Garcia here (where she works) and she explains this week’s task.
Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn meet the designers at the Hearst Corporation building.
The challenge is creating a fashion-forward editorial look for a celebrity fashion story that will run in Marie Claire’s May 2013 issue! The winning look will be photographed and worn by Jordana Brewster. Nina doesn’t want a gown, but she doesn’t want a t-shirt either. The look has to be bold, fashionable, and chic.
The assistants for this challenge are eliminated designers Richard, Tu, Samantha, Amanda and Kate. Stanley won the last challenge, so he picks first and chooses Tu. Tim’s button bag will choose the rest! Michelle get paired with Amanda, Daniel chooses Samantha, Layana picks Kate, and that means Patricia will work with Richard. This is awkward because in the last challenge, they disagreed and fought a lot. There is some tension in the work room, mostly with Patricia and Richard and with Stanley being very bossy to Tu.
Judges Jordana Brewster, Nina Garcia, Zac Posen and Heidi Klum
Actress Jordana Brewster is the guest judge this week and Zac Posen is back. Stanley wins this challenge for the second week in a row! Layana, who also had a fabulous look, is in. Daniel is in, and even though his look wasn’t right for the challenge, it could still be used in an editorial.
It all comes down to Michelle and Patricia in the bottom. Shockingly, Michelle gets a “do-or-die moment” and gets one last shot. We will have to see what that is next week!
