The thing (I can hardly believe) I am loving today is shorts! That’s because I always claim that I despise shorts and I haven’t and will never wear them again. Well that has changed since I saw the shorts at the Valentino Pre-Fall 2024 collection. These shorts are loser and longer than your typical Bermuda shorts. They are more like a pair of slouchy trouser-style shorts. And the reason I adore them because they fit more like a flattering skirt, falling just over the knee. The shorts at Valentino Pre-Fall 2024, under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli, are chic and sophisticated. Many have surprising textures such as sequins, crystals, fringe, beading and applique as well as smooth fabrics. Some of the looks are glitzy enough for a cocktail party, yet can work for daytime too. One of the looks is really quite sporty and all of them are super fashion-forward and easy to wear for women of all ages.
The Valentino shorts are styled with fancy heels and small shoulder and crescent shaped handbags in smooth leathers, giving off a laid-back and eclectic vibe.

Elegant Shorts Outfit for Cocktails
This look is my favorite and led me to look at all of the shorts outfits in the Valentino Pre-Fall 2024 collection. In this case a pair of basic long shorts and leather bag get all dressed up with a sequin beaded fringed peplum top. A pair of lemon drop yellow pointy satin pumps finish off the look in an unexpected way. Here is how you can get a similar look for less.
I know this top is nowhere near as cool, but it will give you the right amount of bling, and the shorts have the right proportions. Besides, the lower-heeled yellow satin shoes I found will be a lot more comfortable to wear.

Chic Shorts Outfit For Women Over 50 for Day
This highly textured and tonal shorts outfit is perfect for brunch, lunch or an event such as a bridal shower.
Look for shorts and a structured sleeveless top in similar colors to get this polished look. Wear nude point-toe pumps and an embellished small shoulder bag in tan to get this ensemble for day.

Sporty Chic Shorts Outfit
One of our favorite trends for Spring/Summer is sporty chic, or “sporty cool” as I called it. This look exemplifies the trend with a zip-front hoodie and shorts ensemble in slate grey. The cool blue heel mules amp up this outfit.
My version of the sporty Valentino look is a lot more casual, but has the same colors and proportions. These jersey shorts from Amazon under a pink button-front shirt and slate grey hoodie will do the trick. Add a light pink structured mini-bag and a pair of blue suede slides to get this sporty chic shorts outfit.
