Stylish Spring Transitions: Easy Fashion Tips for Women Over 50 in 2025

Nothing says “spring is here” like seeing the first crocuses or daffodils start to sprout, the snow melt, and pastels, florals and lighter shades pop up in stores and in our feeds. It’s time to take a look at spring transition fashion!

If you live in most parts of the country, you’ll probably need winter clothes for a while longer. But mixing some spring pieces into your outfits can be a great way to lighten things up— sartorially, at least.

Here are some of the easiest ways to spring forward in 2025…

Spring Suede

Make the spring transition in suede. It’s always around for spring and summer, but this year’s options are more special than usual, with luscious mocha, tan, and almond shades for bags, shoes, belts, and even trench coats, blazers, and skirts.

We’re big fans of this faux suede Abercrombie & Fitch (yes, you read that right — the revamped version of the brand has some downright grown-up pieces) trench and the price is right at $154.

We’re also fans of this whiskey-hued slouchy bag from Quince, which looks much more expensive than it is at $129.20.

Spring Transition Plaid

This fall’s plaid moment is still going strong, with lighter weight versions showing up in the racks and online shopping pages this spring. If you remember the grunge look fondly, try using a plaid shirt as a topper or third piece—this one by J.Crew is a little more refined than your old flannel but just as comfortable.

Pastels

While there’s nothing groundbreaking about wearing pastels in the spring, opting for icy lavender, butter yellow or a petal pink adds some brightness to your wintery grays, blacks and browns. Pastel bottoms mix well with an otherwise neutral outfit, and they can be an unexpected breath of fresh spring air. Try these Gap mid rise jeans in one of the pastel shades if you’re into the concept.

Make the Spring Transition in Asymmetrical Lines

Off one shoulder necklines, diagonal hemlines, and other styles were all over the runways, and they are some of the most flattering looks around. We love a top that drapes off one shoulder like this one from Aritzia in mocha mousse, the color of the year for 2025. Wear it with a convertible bra and remove one strap.

Or try a dress version like this one from ASTR the Label if you have an event coming up (plus it’s only $95.00).

Crochet

The crochet or hand-knit trend shows no sign of slowing down, so break out your favorite crochet pieces or pick up a new one like this Beach Riot option that fits right into spring’s “fisherman style” aesthetic. Wear it over a fitted tank or long sleeve t-shirt.

Polka Dots

There’s something a little bit whimsical and fun about polka dots, no matter what color they are or how they are used. If you’re a fan of polka dots, this spring and summer might be time to stock up.

While a polka dot dress or skirt is most definitely great, polka dot accessories are underrated in our opinion. We love these pointy-toed slingbacks from Sam Edelman—the sheer black-on-black dots are subtle and the silhouette is very on-trend.
