The Most Comfortable Spring Shoes for Women Over 50

I go through this process every spring and summer. I get excited about the warm weather, and each year, I seek out the most comfortable (and still stylish) shoes I an find. After all, shoes can make or break an outfit. And now my aging feet have some issues that other women over 50 may share. I have bunions (well, one foot is worse than the other), my feet swell in warm and humid weather, my back hurts if the heels are too high, and I want to be able to walk several blocks without blisters or any pain whatsoever. To sum it up, I want comfortable spring shoes. It’s true, wisdom comes with age.

Comfortable Spring Shoes for Women Over 50

I don’t know exactly when this happened, but I have officially turned into an old lady (I’m not afraid to say it) who wants to wear comfortable shoes. But I also hope I will continue to be one of those ladies who always wear fabulous and fashionable shoes. This is actually quite attainable too! You don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort any longer. I did a little shopping and found some of the most comfortable spring shoes for women over 50.

The best styles include sneakers, ballet flats, sandals, mules and wedges. They are all comfortable, but also look for shoes with padded footbeds, arch support, soft fabrics and leathers and smooth interior linings. These features will further enhance the comfort of your shoes for spring and summer.

Sneakers

Sneakers have gone beyond the gym, and I for one, am glad! Wear them with everything from jeans to pant suits to skirt and dresses. They are the ultimate “running around” shoe. I have found Adidas and New Balance to be the most comfortable sneakers for me because they have plenty if cushion and I can wear them all day long. But try them on for yourself and see which brands work best for your own feet and give you the best support.

A vintage classic pair in white like these Stan Smiths will work with practically everything in your wardrobe. Besides, they will always be in style. 

Or get a pair of New Balance Classics 327 sneakers for a sportier look for spring. This style has been trending for the last few years.

 Ballet Flats

You won’t be short on finding ballet flats this season. Just about every designer and brand is offering a version for spring and summer. Ballet flat are extremely versatile and are ideal for both casual and dressy occasions. Look for pairs with padded insoles and flexible soles for added comfort.

They cost a bit more but women rave about these Mansur Gavriel “Dream” ballet flats. Yes ,you can get them in black but they are available in six colors. Why not try this fresh banana yellow for spring?

Low-Heeled Sandals

Add a bit of height without sacrificing comfort with a pair of low-heeled sandals. My limit is a 2-1/2′ heel or lower of course when it comes to walking easily! Go casual or dressy but a low-heeled sandal is an important shoe for your fashion arsenal.

A pair of fisherman sandals with a sturdy lug heel (Lauren loves this pair from Frēda Salvador) are practical and edgy at the same time. They will work well with everything from wide leg pants to sundresses for spring/summer, and you can wear them into fall!

Slide-On Mules

There are times when you want to cover your toes but still want a light and airy shoe like a sandal. That’s when slide-on mules come to the rescue, because they are the best of both worlds. They are ideal for urban walks and are appropriate in a casual workplace. Besides, mules are easy to wear and can make a chic statement.

A basic loafer style mule works with jeans, pants and skirts. You will slide on a pair like these Tory Burch Jessa mules many times over.

For spring, an embellished slide-on like these Kurt Geiger London Chelsea mules will make a sparkly statement and give any outfit an instant update. Wear them with a monochrome all black or all white top and pants ensemble. I have a pair of these in black and they are s comfortable as slippers.

Comfortable Wedges

A comfortable way to elevate your look (literally) is with a pair of wedges! They are easier to walk around in than heels (think grass), but can be just as dressy. Besides, they will give you a lift and make you feel slimmer.  Look for lightweight wedges with wide straps for support and cushy footbeds.
